The people of Ulster are not the only folks on earth to use the hand as their national symbol. The people of Abkhazia (who recently gained their independence from Georgia) also employ the symbol on their flag and other national emblems. In the attached picture, notice the white hand on the Abkhazian lady's dress, which has her national colours on it. The stars around the hand represent the historic regions of the country.

The Hands of Ulster & Abkhazia
