Protestants blamed for Belfast violence in US media
Despite admitting that it was unclear which side started the violence in Belfast yesterday, The Washington Post (a pro-Establishment media outlet which in the US as regards Ulster translates as anti-Protestant) ran as its headline: "Protestant rioters attack Catholic homes as sectarian unrest flares on streets of Belfast." The headline makes it seems as though the majority culture is aggressive and oppressive while the minority culture is the victim of oppression (those of us in Dixie are quiet familiar with this media tactic). Of course, the reality of the situation is not nearly as clear.
